Get an Eye Exam to Determine Eye Conditions

If you have been noticing trouble with your eyesight but aren’t sure what might be causing it, an eye exam is crucial. Your exam may turn up any of a huge number of results in a broad range of categories, such as:

  • Congenital Eye Conditions - These conditions include any that are present from birth, and are a product of genetic inheritance. Examples include amblyopia (lazy eye), optic nerve hypoplasia (a condition where the eye fails to transmit images to the brain) or strabismus (squinting, often caused by a refractive error). Common issues such as nearsightedness and farsightedness are also in this category.
  • Progressive Vision Loss - Eye conditions in this category result in a gradual reduction of vision over time. Glaucoma (damage to the optic nerve), macular degeneration (eroding of the macula, or center of the retina) and pinguecula (growth on the membrane covering the white of the eye) can all cause progressive loss of eyesight.
  • Allergies or Irritation - Many people experience eye allergies or irritation. Staring at the computer for long periods of time can impact eye comfort, as can pollen or conjunctivitis, otherwise known as “pink eye.”
  • Eye Trauma - Eye trauma covers a huge range of potential eye conditions, which typically result from a violent impact, cut or another injury. This might include a detached retina (where the back of the eye pulls away from the supportive blood vessels and other tissues), corneal abrasion (scratch on the front of the eye) or chemical burns.

If your eye exam has turned up any of the above conditions, or others, it’s time to get help.

From when I walked in the staff was cheerful and happy. I had a lady take me back for the pre-exam part and she was such a sweetheart ! Then the eye doctors daughter who is also the contact lady was sooo nice and made me feel at home! Amazing, amazing place!"
